State Representative Esther P. Golar obituary
/in ObituariesEsther P. Golar was born April 16, 1944 in Merigold, Mississippi to
the union of Amos Coleman and Comoria Perteet. Esther was the 7th
child in a family of 9 siblings. The spirited, focused persona we have
affectionately come to know as Esther Pearl was also a mother,
grandmother, a sister, auntie and ultimately State Representative
Esther Golar.
The early education of Esther was structured from home schooling by
Miss Felder in Merigold, Mississippi. In 1950 the Colemans migrated to
Chicago, Illinois. The old and new school teaching’s of God and family
first in all things marinated into the character fiber of Esther.
Esther’s subsequent formal education in Chicago was enhanced at Daniel
Hale William and Gladstone Grammar Schools and she graduated from
Crane Technical High School. She received her college education from
Malcolm X College.
Esther’s dedication to her family was unquestionable. As a young adult
and throughout her life, her selfless sacrifices of time, energy and
service were commonplace. She often cared for immediate and extended
family members who experienced loss of parents or were challenged by
poor health status. In addition, we are all blessed by her love of
singing- it was anticipated that Esther would burst into song at
family gatherings, such as birthday parties, baby dedication cermonies
and homegoings, etc. This empowering talent to convey her heartfelt
sentiment through song is well known and is, in part, a trademark
carried over to her professional and political environments.
Esther received Christ at an early age and was an active member of
Trinity UCC serving with the Hospitality Ministry and it was her
authentic love of people that fueled her passion for working with
children and seniors.
Esther has always had a passion for kids and senior citizens. It was
this passion that got her working and eventually took charge of The
Mantle and The Port. These two programs allowed her to give back to
her community. It was also this kind of passion that she brought to
the C.A.P.S. program. At any given time, you could find Esther in her
community running programs: block parties for kids, handing out school
supplies, getting drug dealers out of the neighborhood, getting
abandoned properties torn down. Esther has won numerous awards and
appeared on endless t.v. programs expressing the desire for everyone
to get out there and work to take back their neighborhoods. This
passion caused those around her to respect her, admire her and love
her.
The dedication she had to this work is what got her noticed and chosen
to campaign for the position of State Representative D Chicago 6th
District. Esther won her first election in 2006, finally she she had a
position where she could not only make a difference in the community
but also make a difference on a larger scale. It is here in her
position as State Representative where you watched her star burn so
bright that those around her had to take notice of who she was and the
love she gave to every program and committee she served on. Her star
shined so bright that she won awards for her courage and commitment.
Everyone around her showed her much respect and love and admired her
for her commitment to her work she was also called the singing rep at
any given time you could hear her powerful voice singing her own
renditions of songs in the sessions in Springfield. For that reason
and many others, she went on to win many elections and serve almost
ten years in the Illinois General Assembly.
When any star shines as bright as Esther’s does it eventually burns
out. Esther’s light burned out on Monday, September 21, 2015 at 5:28am
at Northwestern Hospital.
She leaves to mourn her departure her loving daughter Tiffany (Stan),
4 beautiful grandchildren, Briana, Toni, Ananda and Jayden, 3
remaining siblings: Alma (LB), Amos (Marietta) and Roy (Hazel). 5
siblings preceded her in death (Alice, J.W., George, Hazel and Carol).
A host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and colleagues.
