Cayla Mirrelle Hargrove, August 3, 1987- March 24, 2021

Daughter to Carole and Bill Hargrove, Sister to Bryce (Erin) and Ayan, Aunt to Logan, Milo and Brave. Other noted Hargrove family: Grandma Mary Hargrove, Uncles Roy (Theodosia), Kevin, Dwight (Donna), Ronnie (Vanessa). Cousins: Kittra, Desiree, Devon, Derek, Jaylen, Wynter. Other noted Rennie family (Carole’s side):  Aunt Sharon (Jim), Uncle Richard (Tina), and cousins Whitney (Mike), Courtney, Lance and Ross.

Cayla was known as being someone with a big personality and an even bigger heart.  If she had an opinion, you’d know it.  If Cayla wanted something, she’d tell you (or she’d just take it).

Cayla was the definitive baby of the family, as well as the only girl, coming after two boys. Some of her favorite stories to re-tell would be when she would get to come home from school just to have lunch with her dad. 

Cayla loved having her “people” around her.  She would invite her friend group over to the house and host big BBQs for them.  She always found a way to be at any big family gathering.  Though the bond Cayla shared with her mom, who she affectionately called “Mommadean”, was one bigger than any words could describe.

Cayla was an athlete in the truest form. In high school, she played soccer, but her strength was basketball.  She played all four years at University of Nebraska-Omaha. Then, she even went on to play professionally in Spain. 

Cayla was a child at heart and she loved playing with her niece and nephews.  She’d play basketball, ride scooters, shoot firecrackers, fly kites, look for bugs, and so much more.  Her childlike quality also came with a strong, sweet tooth.  Cayla could always be found with a jolly rancher, sucker or bag of sweet tarts within arm’s reach.

Cayla was adventurous. Being a flight attendant for American Airlines was truly the best job for her.  She loved seeing and experiencing new places and cultures.  She was proud of the long list of places she’d been and look forward to adding many more.   

Cayla was a force of nature. One that will never be forgotten and one that was taken far too soon.  Cayla passed suddenly and naturally. Cayla’s memory will live on through the many people her organs will help.  For this and much more, Cayla will forever be a hero. 

No formal service will be held though the family is planning a Celebration of Cayla’s Life that will be held at a later date.  In lieu of flowers, the Hargrove family would prefer donations to causes they support:  Alzheimer’s Association, American Cancer Society and Gift of Hope (the organ donation organization).
