GEOFFREY ADKINS OBITUARY

Adkins, Dr. Geoffrey (Geoff) Mark long-time resident of River Forest,
IL, passed away on July 30, 2011 after a long illness. He was 60 years
old. He attended Chicago Public Schools, enrolled in the University of
Chicago in 1969, graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1973
and a Doctor of Medicine (MD) in 1977. Dr. Adkins’ Board Certification
to the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG)
occurred in December, 1984. Dr. Adkins was accepted as a Fellow of the
American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists in 1985. Dr.
Adkins practiced Obstetrics and Gynecology as a key consultant to both
private practitioners and hospitals. He was admired by his patients
for a gentle and caring nature that belied his towering stature, a
stature that was greatly exceeded by his warm heart and fun-loving
nature. He was appreciated by his numerous classmates, colleagues and
friends, for his loyalty and quick wit. Geoff was preceded in death by
his father, Winston, a member of the Tuskegee Airmen, and his mother,
Marjorie, retired Chief of Fine Arts and Music Departments of the
Chicago Public Library system. He is survived by his sister, Winona
Adkins of Oakland, California, and many cousins in the Chicagoland
area. The Viewing will be Thursday, August 11 at the A. A. Rayner &
Sons Funeral Home, 318 E. 71st St., at Prairie Ave., Chicago, IL.
Funeral services will be held at The Church of the Good Shepherd, 5700
S. Prairie Ave., on Friday, August 12 at 1 p.m., immediately preceded
